Planning a trip to Montana and don’t know what to pack?! No worries! I’ve got you covered! Packing for a trip can be pretty overwhelming for some; especially those of us that procrastinate and just end up throwing a bunch of crap in our suitcase without having particular outfits in mind. Instead of being stressed, try and imagine all the beautiful photos you will take and plan outfits that will blend in well with your environment.
My first look I wore directly off the plane as it was comfortable yet stylish. I call this look Woodsy Rocker Chic. This is a simple yet eye-catching look. I wore a graphic t-shirt dress (Nasty Gal) with an army green utility jacket (Hollister) layered over and had to wear my hiking boots as they would not fit in my carry-on bag! It was a little bit of a pain going through security but I did not want to check my bag so it was worth it to me. The hat adds that extra something that makes the outfit edgy. I recently purchased this Brixton hat from Nordstrom and it only cost me $60 (see attached link below for shopping link on hat)!
This second look I call Indiana Jones Chic. I wore basic black gym shorts and a graphic tee with my army green utility jacket layered over for warmth. The fun hat, printed bandana, and hiking boots are what takes this outfit from basic to stylish. The rest of the pieces came straight from my closet as I was trying to save money and did not want to spend a lot of money on clothes for this trip. I was comfortable and felt cute during my hiking adventure. The graphic tee is from Free People (last season) and the basic black gym shorts are from Target. The hiking boots are by Toms and I purchased them last year. The bandana is last season Alexander Wang.
The third look I call Hiker Biker Chic. Biker shorts have been a big trend and I recently found these fun ones by DKNY sport at Macy’s for $10! I wanted to incorporate them into an outfit as they are comfy yet fun and stylish. An all black look with a crop top makes it streamlined and flattering. And the hiking boots give it that unexpected twist which makes the look more interesting. When it was chilly at the higher elevation I brought a long sleeve (that I had just purchased the day before in Whitefish) that matches the stripes in my biker shorts. I could also add the utility jacket for extra warmth if needed. This look was extremely comfortable and I felt very sporty spice in it, lol.
And the final look I wore while exploring the charming city of Whitefish I call Cozy Casual Chic. The weather was perfect to be able to wear a sweater and cute mini skirt! The skirt was still summery but the sweater added that extra texture and coziness. And of course I added the hat and hiking boots for that fun Big Sky Country vibe that defines Montana. The sweater and skirt I purchased at Free People last season.
For me, part of the excitement and fun are planning my outfits while also planning activities for my trip! Incorporating a theme for all my outfits is also helpful so that I can use some of the same pieces over again. All of my clothes for 6 days fit in my carry-on bag; I am a flight attendant after all and extremely good at packing! Just remember you can never go wrong with basics and add fun accessories to elevate an outfit to the next level. I mean I literally wore my Brixton hat everyday. Hope this packing guide helps you for when you plan your trip to visit the Big Sky Country!
